Little Cassandra was born early 2013. At her 2 week checkup her pediatrician noticed something in her eye. She sent us to have it looked at with the specialist and after one visit we learned that she had a congenital cataract and that it needed to be fixed asap or her eye would not develop vision since she was so young. As many people know, cataracts are not urgent in older people as they have established vision. This was not the case with a newborn.

She had surgery just a couple of weeks later. Now we have to put in a contact lens every morning and patch the good eye for a few hours a day to stimulate the vision in the bad eye. She does not like anyone touching her eye now and puts up a fight every day. She will have an implant lens placed later when she has grown a bit and then we hope for normal vision without a contact after lens placement.

It’s a new experience for us and we are trying to learn the little tricks to helping her. She is the youngest of 4 kids and is such a happy little girl despite her eye troubles. 🙂
